Some of you eager backyard farmers have been wondering about the progress of our home aquaponics prototype. Well we have progressed a lot since the last post.

We moved the unit outside, got the plumbing worked out and moved it back inside since the last update. Because it is inside the office at our urban farm in Chandler, we have a grow light doing the sunshine duty. As you can see from the photos, we are using volcanic rock as a growing medium. The lettuce that you see growing was direct seeded right in the rock.

The system is preforming extraordinarily well so far. We still have some tinkering and experimenting to do but we are getting closer to planning out the production model.
