Our Heirloom Brandywine tomatoes plants are going at full steam right now producing delicious nutrient dense tomatoes. Make sure you get to the Downtown Phoenix Public Market early to get your hands on these lovelies. If you can’t make it out to the market, we will have tomatoes available on Thursday and Friday at our Chandler greenhouse. If you would like to pick up tomatoes on Thursday or Friday, make sure you call us at 480-632-0272 before Thursday to reserve some.

If you have ever visited us at the market or come out to the farm, you have most likely heard one us say that all our products are pesticide free. It’s true that we use no chemical pesticides; however we do employ some methods of pest control. We use what are known as beneficial insects to keep the pests out of the greenhouse.

These insects work all day and all night to keep the pests from destroying your food. While we may only have a handful of human workers here at RhibaFarms, we have thousands of insect ones. The Praying Mantis is one of our hardest workers in the greenhouse and we recently welcomed in hundreds of new inspect employees.

Did you know that you can get fresh products from RhibaFarms at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market?

We deliver fresh product to the market every week. If the Saturday market doesn’t fit into your schedule and if you can’t make it to our greenhouse in Chandler, the Downtown Phoenix Public Market is your source for fresh wheatgrass and micro-greens. Their hours are: Tuesday thru Friday 11 am to 8 pm.

Also in case you didn’t know, you can purchase wheatgrass and micro-greens direct from our Chandler greenhouse Monday thru Friday 8 am to 5 pm, but make sure to call ahead to insure availability.

Here is a real idea for those empty half-finished towers in downtown Tempe. Instead of only being intrusive on the skyline, they could help feed the community. It would be a breath of fresh air to see these buildings turn into something more useful than overpriced condos.

The buzz in the news is the shortage of flu shots, but one of the best ways to avoid the flu is to keep your immune system robust. Kim Brown Supports Rhibafarms

Kim Brown, a local health food advocate and mother, invited us into her home to introduce her and her friends to our living foods. It was great to meet so many health conscious folks and to talk about good foods.

Kim has found a way to revese Type 1 Diabetes in her daughter Kylie. Quoted from her blog “We have found that grain and dairy eliminated has helped reverse the signs of Type 1 Diabetes in youngest daughter Kylie. Through testing we found that her body needed those foods eliminated in order to rest her broken pancreas and start a regeneration process. It took 6 months. Wheatgrass vs. Garlic Breath

In our last post I mentioned that we would be testing the array of claims found on the Internet about the many uses of wheatgrass. In this post we will be checking out one of the more useful functions of wheatgrass in regards to social situations. Will wheatgrass help with bad breath?

Suzie has just returned from lunch and tells us she had a heaping plate of garlic noodles. In our pre-wheatgrass breath check Melissa reports that it smells like Suzie has a mouth stuffed chock full of garlic cloves. As you all know garlic is a pretty hard odor to get rid off and admittitly I am very skeptical that the wheatgrass will be able to overcome such a strong scent. We juiced up one 4oz shot of wheatgrass and Suzie put it down the hatch.

Now for the moment of truth, the post wheatgrass breath check……Success! Melissa reports no sign of the garlic, just the smell of a freshly cut lawn. I am truly amazed with this one. Go out there and try it for yourself.
